The ancient ritual of taking tea is a spiritual act deeply rooted in Chinese Zen philosophy in which participants strive for inner peace and harmony by removing themselves from the mundane day-to-day. We can take a lot from this to help us cope with the constant whir of modern life – simply finding time to recentre ourselves by drinking CBD tea as part of a daily mindful practice can offer us the solace we need to reconnect and reaffirm our wellbeing.
The ritual of drinking tea as part of a mindful act dates back to the 9th century and its roots are entrenched in Buddhism. Mindful tea rituals have been commonplace all over Asia for thousands of years – in Japan especially, a tea ritual is a deeply meaningful cultural act representing respect, tranquillity and harmony. So can a modern day CBD tea ritual help us to achieve inner peacefulness? Can drinking CBD tea as part of a mindfulness ritual give us the oasis of calm we crave?
Adopting a Modern Day CBD Tea Ritual
Design the Setting When looking to start your own CBD tea ritual, it’s important to first pay careful attention to your setting. Make sure that there is nothing around which will distract you from achieving inner mindfulness. This means tidying away anything likely to make your mind wander; remove untidy clutter and make sure your seating is comfortable, your lighting is gentle and the ambiance is conducive to a meditative state. Choose relaxing music and perhaps light a candle to set the scene. Taking time to make sure the atmosphere is perfect is an important part of the CBD tea ritual – paying careful attention to the environment is part of what will help you re-centre and ground you.
Pick the Perfect Time Choosing a time of day to allow you to best connect with yourself and be present in the moment is a vital aspect of your CBD tea ritual. If morning is your optimal time, consider setting your intentions for the day and take time to think about the things you are grateful for. Close your eyes and listen to the peace surrounding you, breathe deeply to help you to re centre yourself as you relax into the ritual. Some find that a mindful break in the middle of the day is preferable; an afternoon tea break can promote productivity and revitalise you to carry on. Others like to drink CBD tea as part of an evening ritual to ease them into a peaceful night’s sleep and achieve a clear mind before settling down for the night. Finding time to listen to what your heart, body and mind need in that moment is pivotal to help you achieve inner calm. Whichever time you choose, ensure that you can make a ritual of it and that it is something which you can do at the same time every day.

Select the Perfect Tea Service Selecting a favourite tea cup and using a teapot which brings you joy will contribute to the mindful benefits of a CBD tea ritual. Choosing a cup which sits comfortably ‘just so’ in your hand, and using a beloved teapot which keeps the tea at the perfect temperature will enhance the sensory pleasures involved in a tea ceremony and helps you treat your tea ritual as a sacred time. Lay everything out and ensure you have everything you need at hand before brewing your CBD tea so that you can focus on the present.
Engage Your Senses Using all five senses to help you to remain present in your CBD tea ceremony will prove a powerful technique in achieving deep inner mindfulness. Watch as the tea leaves unfurl, observe the droplets of water rise up as steam, breathe in and enjoy the aroma before taking the time to taste your chosen CBD tea and experience the feelings of warmth and wellbeing as it enters your body. Feel your body relax and unwind as you experience the restorative benefits of your tea, sipping consciously to make sure you appreciate every sense.
Choose Your Favourite Tea Drinking tea leaves steeped in boiling water has been reputed to help boost immunity, detox the body and can offer all manner of benefits, depending on the type of tea chosen. Certain types of tea infused with herbs (such as camomile or lavender) can help aid sleep, whilst peppermint is reported to help aid indigestion. Ginger tea is a favourite of pregnant women looking for relief from morning sickness, whilst matcha tea is rich in catechins (plant compounds in tea that act as natural antioxidants).
A regular tea ritual is a self-care indulgence that can help realign mind, body and spirit. But why add CBD to your tea? How can drinking CBD tea enhance your mindfulness ritual to achieve inner calm?
Why Put CBD in Tea?
CBD tea is becoming a hugely popular drink by those in the wellness space and for good reason. But what is CBD, and why add CBD to tea?
As with CBD coffee, drinking CBD tea brings this powerful natural botanical into the ‘everyday’, making it more easily accessible for all who are looking for a drink to enhance overall wellbeing. From green tea to herbal tea, black tea, matcha tea and everything in between, the leaves of the tea plant have been enjoyed by people all over the world for centuries. Adding CBD to your tea as part of a mindful daily tea ritual can enhance your inner calm (the calming effect of CBD is the most commonly mentioned benefit by our customers).
Natural plant essences have been used in teas and tinctures for centuries and are known to aid a peaceful mind and relaxed body. From diet to yoga, medication to therapy and everything in between… People looking to ease their anxiety find their inner calm in all sorts of ways. Regular exercise, adequate sleep, and good nutrition are some of the best ways to naturally better equip your body to ease anxiety, but research is showing that natural supplements can also help to ease anxiety and offer the inner peace you crave. Natural plant extracts have long been praised for helping humans achieve emotional balance and to find inner calm, – adding a CBD tea ritual to your wellbeing routine is a popular way of achieving this in the modern day.
How to Add CBD to Tea
Using our Pure CBD oils to make CBD tea is simple. That said, because oil and water do not mix well, adding CBD oil to a cup of tea can result in an undesirable oil floating on the top unless done very carefully. Make sure that you make CBD tea made using a fat (such as oat milk or regular dairy milk) as this can increase the bioavailability slightly as the added fat will carry the CBD oil.
Most importantly, when making CBD tea you will need to make sure that your CBD dosage does not exceed your daily CBD dosage which is why it is best to use a CBD company you can trust (EthicaCBD of course!) so that it is explicitly clear how much CBD you are taking in each dose. Many people use CBD-infused tea bags for making their CBD tea and this can be a good addition if you can source a decent producer of CBD tea bags.
