Perfecting the CBD extraction process

To create and manufacture any CBD products, you first need to extract the cannabinoid from the raw material. There are many ways in which this process can be completed, and each different method brings its own benefits and disadvantages.

At EthicaCBD we are committed to using the best extraction methods for each of our products to ensure that we consistently deliver on quality and purity.

Why is the extraction process so important?

The method adopted for extraction impacts three main criteria: cost, efficiency and purity. Where other companies might look to balance each of these requirements, EthicaCBD chooses to use extraction methods that guarantee only the purest and highest quality cannabinoids are used in our products.

The importance of the raw materials in CBD

It’s no surprise that the quality of the end product relies on the character of the raw material, which is why we take great pride in sourcing the very best hemp for our extracts. Mature plants are carefully harvested by our knowledgeable farmers, ensuring that only the finest raw ingredients are used in the manufacture of our products.

Any additional products that are used to enhance the quality of our extracts are meticulously selected to complement the individual cannabinoids and are organically grown, cruelty-free, and suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

Whole plant supercritical CO2 CBD extraction

At EthicaCBD we have taken the decision to collect our whole plant CBD using a technique called supercritical CO2 extraction. This highly complex process allows us to not only control the entire extraction, but removes the need for any additional additives or contaminants. Supercritical CO2 extraction is highly efficient and makes the most of the entire hemp plant. It is a completely sustainable process and each step is eco-sensitive and environmentally friendly.

The science behind supercritical CO2 extraction

The extraction begins with a liquid form of carbon dioxide (CO2). This CO2 is slowly heated and the pressure is increased until it is classified as ‘supercritical’. This simply means the carbon dioxide displays the properties of both a gas and a liquid. In this state, it can fill a container like a gas would, but also behaves as a liquid in terms of density and properties.

This supercritical CO2 is then passed through the raw material under very strict conditions allowing the cannabinoids to be separated from the hemp plant itself. Crucially this process does no damage to terpenes or other extracts, creating the purest possible CBD extracts. Carefully balancing the pressure and temperature is a highly skilled process, and a tricky one to perfect, but EthicaCBD has worked tirelessly to hone its methods of extraction in order to deliver the highest quality CBD extracts.

The final CBD product

By carefully controlling the CBD extraction process, we are able to decide what stays and what goes, retaining the all-important phytocannabinoids and terpenes that are often discarded by other extraction processes.

At EthicaCBD we treat the extraction like an artform, recognising the benefit that bespoke processes can have on the taste, purity, and potential benefits of our broad-spectrum CBD.

Extracting Pure CBD

EthicaCBD Pure is for those who want to experience the simple benefits of CBD. In this product, we have sensitively removed all other elements to leave behind nothing but CBD. In order to ensure that CBD Pure remains premium quality, we use stringent purifying techniques to carefully separate the extracts from the hemp plant.

By employing these methods we are able to create the cleanest and purest CBD available today. We have done this for those seeking a CBD range without the cannabinoids, or other by-products, that remain during the whole plant extraction process.
